Stock Average Calculator
Track multiple purchases and different holdings, include your own transaction costs, enter a separate CMP for each stock, find target averages, and plan exits. No country-specific fee or tax rules are hard-coded.
Purchase entries
Group purchases by ticker to build separate holdings.
Position summary
For one holding, this shows its combined cost basis. Different holdings are shown separately below.
CMP simulator
Enter a separate current market price for every holding.
Reverse average
Find the additional quantity needed to reach a target average. Use this when one holding is selected by entering only one ticker.
Target profit & exit planner
Model a full or partial exit with your own selling costs for a single holding.
Partial exit
Estimate gains from selling part of the current single-holding position.
How to use the Stock Average Calculator
Use a separate purchase row for each buy. Enter a ticker or holding name, quantity, purchase price and any entry costs you want to include. Rows with the same ticker are combined; different tickers are calculated as separate holdings.
1. Add each purchase
For example, buying 10 shares at 100 and later 20 shares at 130 gives 30 shares with a gross average of 120 per share: (10 × 100 + 20 × 130) ÷ 30. Enter the actual quantity and price for every purchase instead of averaging the prices alone.
2. Include transaction costs
Choose a flat cost or a percentage for each purchase and enter the applicable costs. Gross average excludes these costs; net average includes them in the cost basis. The calculator does not automatically know your broker's fees or local taxes.
3. Check current value and unrealized P/L
Enter a current market price (CMP) for each holding. Estimated market value is quantity × CMP. Unrealized profit or loss is that market value minus the recorded purchase cost, including entry costs. It is an estimate and does not account for selling costs until you use the exit planner.
4. Plan another purchase or an exit
For one holding, use Reverse average to estimate the extra shares needed for a target average at a planned purchase price. Use Target profit & exit planner to estimate net proceeds, profit or loss and break-even after the selling costs you enter. Partial exit estimates the result for only the shares or percentage sold.
Read the estimates carefully
Results depend on the quantities, prices and costs you enter. The calculator does not provide live prices, investment recommendations or automatic tax calculations. Averaging down increases the amount invested and does not guarantee a recovery; consider the risk of the holding as well as its average price.
How is the average share price calculated?
Gross average is the total purchase value divided by the total shares. Net average includes the entry costs you enter, so it estimates the cost per share after those costs.
Can I add more than two purchases?
Yes. You can add up to 50 purchase rows. Use the same ticker or name to group purchases into one holding.
How do I calculate unrealized profit or loss?
Enter the current market price (CMP) for each holding. The calculator estimates market value as shares multiplied by CMP, then subtracts the recorded purchase cost including entry costs.
How do I estimate selling profit and break-even?
For one holding, enter a target selling price and any sell-side cost. The planner estimates net proceeds, profit or loss, return percentage and a break-even selling price based on the costs entered.
Can I track different stocks together?
Yes. Give each holding a different ticker or name. Each holding gets its own average, CMP, market value and unrealized profit or loss. Reverse averaging and exit planning are limited to one holding at a time.
Does this include taxes or live stock prices?
No. It does not fetch live market prices or automatically calculate taxes. Enter the CMP and costs yourself; results are estimates based only on those inputs.
How do I calculate an average after buying more shares?
Add each purchase as a separate row with its quantity, price and entry costs. The calculator combines valid rows with the same ticker and divides their combined cost by the combined share quantity.
What is the difference between gross average and net average?
Gross average excludes the entry costs you entered. Net average includes those costs in the total cost basis, so it is usually the more useful figure when planning a break-even exit.
Can I calculate a target average price?
Yes. Enter a target average and the price and costs of a planned additional purchase. The reverse-average planner estimates the extra shares needed when the target is mathematically achievable for one holding.
Can I estimate a partial sale?
Yes. Enter either the number of shares to sell or a percentage of the holding, along with the selling price and sell-side costs. The estimate allocates purchase cost proportionally to the shares sold.
Can I use this outside India?
Yes. The calculator does not hard-code country-specific brokerage, transaction tax or regulatory rules. Enter the applicable costs yourself and check whether your local tax treatment requires separate calculations.
