Understanding TDS Calculator — India
What this withholding calculator covers
This calculator provides estimates for selected Indian tax-deduction-at-source categories and inputs. It is not a complete withholding engine for every payment, taxpayer, certificate, residency status or exception.
The applicable rate and threshold can depend on the payment category, payee status, financial-year aggregate, documentation and current law. Use the calculator's stated category and baseline rather than assuming every transaction is covered.
Before relying on a TDS estimate
Confirm the payment classification, threshold, PAN or other documentation status and any applicable exemption or certificate. Salary withholding, non-resident payments and specialised cases may require separate rules that this calculator does not model.
Verify the current official guidance for the relevant financial year before deducting or depositing tax. This result is an estimate, not a compliance determination.
Calculation methodology
The calculator uses a built-in FY 2026-27 baseline for selected resident-payment categories and checks current-payment or annual-aggregate thresholds where modeled. It is not a live or exhaustive TDS engine. Verify rates, thresholds, exceptions, certificates and non-resident rules with current official guidance before relying on a result.
Important assumptions
- Results are estimates based on the values you enter.
- Rates and returns are assumed for the projection period and may change in real life.
- Taxes, fees, market conditions and provider-specific rules may affect actual outcomes.
India withholding-tax sources
This covers selected resident-payment cases only. The built-in FY 2026-27 rates and thresholds are not a live official feed and require verification against current rules, exceptions and notifications.
Sources checked October 2, 2026. Rates and scheme terms are not live-updated.

Does this TDS calculator use the latest India rules?
It contains a built-in FY 2026-27 baseline for selected resident-payment categories, but it is not a live rules engine. Verify the applicable rate, threshold and exceptions with current official guidance before relying on a result.
What happens if PAN is not available?
The calculator uses a 20% higher-rate assumption where Section 206AA applies. Actual exceptions and special cases can change the result, so verify the applicable rule before relying on it.
Does this TDS calculator cover every type of payment?
No. It covers selected resident-payment categories. Salary withholding, non-resident payments, certificates and other specialised cases may need separate rules.
Does this calculate salary TDS?
No. Salary withholding is not included in the selected resident-payment categories supported by this calculator.
Why does the calculator ask for both payment amount and annual aggregate?
Several TDS provisions use a financial-year threshold. The calculator uses the current payment and, where relevant, the total amount paid or credited to the payee during the year to determine whether the threshold has been crossed.
Does this cover every TDS situation?
No. It covers a set of common resident-payment categories. Salary TDS, non-resident withholding, lower/nil deduction certificates, declarations, special exemptions and other specialised cases require additional rules.
Should I verify the rate before deducting tax?
Yes. Confirm the payment category, threshold, payee status, documentation and current financial-year rules using official guidance before acting on the estimate.
