How to Calculate Brokerage Fees and Total Trading Costs

Use the calculator to estimate the full cost of a trade, compare broker pricing assumptions and find the sell price needed to break even. Results update from the prices, quantity and charges you enter.

1

Choose your market

Start with a sourced market preset when available. Choose Other / Custom to build a fee model for another broker, exchange or instrument. Check the currency and rates before calculating.

2

Enter your trade

Choose the trade type that matches your transaction. Enter your buy price, sell price or target profit, and quantity; the total trade value is based on price multiplied by quantity.

3

Set brokerage and charges

Choose percentage, fixed, or fixed-plus-percentage brokerage and set any per-order cap. Expand taxes & other charges to review market taxes, exchange and regulatory fees, stamp duty, GST, and any other applicable costs.

4

Read the result

Read net profit / loss after charges first. Compare it with gross profit, total costs and net return, then use the break-even sell price to estimate the exit price required to cover the configured fees.

FAQ

Brokerage Calculator FAQs

How do I calculate brokerage charges?

Enter your buy price, sell price or target profit, and quantity. Then choose percentage-based, fixed or combined brokerage and enter the other fees that apply to the trade. The estimate uses those inputs and any configured per-order cap; it is only as accurate as the fee assumptions you provide.

What is the formula for brokerage fees?

For percentage-based brokerage, the fee is generally the eligible trade value multiplied by the brokerage rate. For fixed brokerage, it is the stated amount per order. Some providers combine these methods or cap the fee at a maximum amount. The exact calculation base and whether fees apply separately to buy and sell orders depend on the provider's tariff.

What is a normal brokerage fee?

There is no single normal brokerage fee across all markets. Providers may charge a percentage of trade value, a fixed amount per order, a per-share or per-contract fee, or a combination with a minimum or maximum. Compare the full cost for your instrument and trade size rather than the headline commission alone.

How much will brokerage cost for a stock trade?

The cost depends on the buy and sell values, quantity, fee model and any applicable venue, regulatory, tax or other charges. Enter the rates that apply to your account to estimate total costs and net profit or loss. Check whether your provider charges on both sides of the trade.

Can I calculate intraday trading fees with this calculator?

You can estimate intraday costs when the selected market and trade-type settings match your trade, or by entering the applicable rates in the custom fields. Intraday pricing differs by provider and market, so confirm the fee basis, per-order limits and any additional charges before using the result.

Does brokerage include all trading fees and taxes?

Not always. Brokerage or commission may be only one part of the total cost. Depending on the market and instrument, other costs can include exchange or venue fees, regulatory levies, transaction taxes, currency-conversion charges and account-specific fees. Include the applicable items in the calculator; costs not entered will not be reflected in the estimate.

Can a broker charge any amount for brokerage?

There is no single worldwide limit that applies to every provider and market. Pricing restrictions, disclosure requirements and permitted charges depend on local law, the instrument and the service offered. Check your provider's published tariff and the rules of the relevant regulator or exchange if you need to confirm whether a charge is permitted.

Can I compare brokerage fees between providers?

Where a built-in comparison is available, it estimates costs for the providers, instruments and trade types listed there. For other providers or markets, enter their current fee schedules in the calculator and compare like-for-like trades. Plans, discounts and additional charges may change the result.

Can I use this brokerage calculator in any country?

You can use the custom mode for fee assumptions supported by the calculator, but it does not automatically know every country's tax, exchange or regulatory rules. Select a sourced preset only when it matches your market and trade type, and verify local charges and your provider's current tariff.

How do I find the break-even sell price?

Enter the buy price, quantity and applicable charges. The calculator estimates the sell price at which the proceeds cover the purchase cost and modeled trading fees. Missing fees, slippage and execution differences can change the actual break-even point.
